Sophie Ambro

Originally from Northport, Sophie Ambro graduated from Fordham University at Lincoln Center. She earned an undergraduate degree in Communications & Culture and a Master’s Degree in Public Media.

 

While at Fordham she was named a Fordham University Emerging Leader. She was a member of the National Honor Society, received the Social Innovation Research Intern Award, and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi.

 

Sophie was an intern with 21 in '21, a non-profit dedicated to electing more women to the New York City Council. There, she oversaw the creation of a weekly newsletter highlighting relevant news, including NYC budget votes, the family border separation crisis, and systemic injustices and the ways in which women have been disproportionately affected.

 

Sophie recently worked as a Political Campaigns and Advocacy Fellow for New Deal Strategies helping progressive candidates win city council races across New York City. Currently, she is the Director of Operations and Scheduling for a New York City Council Member in District 33 Brooklyn. Sophie lives in lower Manhattan.

 

Ms. Ambro is being honored with The Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Emerging Advocate Award in recognition of her advocacy efforts to successfully remove an abortion restriction from the Huntington town code.
